The why
Solar water heaters need clean glass too
Hawaii has required solar water heaters on most new single family homes since 2010, and plenty of older homes have them too, so a lot of Oahu roofs have at least one. The collectors are the flat, glass topped boxes on the roof, usually tilted up toward the sun on a rack. Sunlight passes through the glass and heats the fluid inside, and that's what heats your water.
When the glass gets coated in salt, dust, and film, less sun gets through. These panels are often the ones nobody thinks about, so the grime can build up for a long time. Our photos show a set of collectors on a flat roof from one of our jobs.

What's the difference between a solar water heater and solar panels?
Solar panels, also called PV panels, turn sunlight into electricity. A solar water heater uses flat collector panels to heat water for your home. They both sit on the roof and both need clean glass to do their job. We clean both.
Can you clean my solar water heater and solar panels on the same visit?
Yes. If you have both, tell us when you call or in the form and we'll plan for both on the same trip.
How much does it cost?
It depends on how many collectors you have, how they're mounted, and how easy they are to reach. Send the form or call and we'll give you a price for your home.
Do you repair solar water heaters?
No. We clean the collector glass. If your water isn't getting hot, or you see a leak, call a licensed solar water heating contractor or plumber. If the glass just needs cleaning, that's us.
